When dialogue becomes stronger than disagreement
After years of recurring disputes over financial responsibilities, extended family interference, and lack of privacy within their marital life, Samir and Hanan felt that their chances of mutual understanding had become limited. Hanan had decided to request divorce, considering it the only option available to her.
At that stage, the couple turned to ACT Foundation for Dispute Resolution, where they participated in a mediation process that provided a safe and neutral space for dialogue, based on principles of confidentiality, neutrality, and voluntary participation. This allowed each of them to express their needs and concerns away from accusations and pressures.
Through several mediation sessions, the process helped the couple move beyond blame, improve their communication methods, and discuss the core issues that had sustained the conflict. They reached practical understandings regarding the distribution of financial responsibilities, setting clear boundaries for family members’ interference, and strengthening mutual respect within the relationship.
Thanks to mediation, the couple reached a voluntary agreement that met both parties’ needs. They decided to give their relationship a new chance after becoming more capable of dialogue and conflict management.
The wife said: "I came believing that separation was my only option, but mediation gave us the chance to listen to each other instead of continuing to argue."
The husband added: "This process helped me realize the impact of my actions on my family, and together we were able to find solutions neither of us had thought of before."
