The Regional Network for Reconciliation Calls for Peace in Sudan
The humanitarian tragedy necessitates ending the war and we place our expertise at the disposal of the Sudanese people.
The Regional Network for Reconciliation and Forgiveness has issued the following statement:
The network closely follows the unfortunate events in Sudan since the outbreak of armed conflict on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The humanitarian and security situation has deteriorated, leading to unprecedented tragedies suffered by the Sudanese people, who have paid a heavy price for the conflict in terms of the blood of their children and their future.
Approximately 18 million people are facing food insecurity, which accounts for about one-third of Sudan's population. Additionally, 5 million people have been displaced within Sudan, and around 1.4 million have sought refuge in neighboring countries. By September, the number of civilian casualties had exceeded nine thousand, and humanitarian workers and medical personnel have been systematically targeted. Heavy weapons have been used to destroy infrastructure, including drinking water facilities and hospitals.
The network considers that the ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in multiple areas, including the capital Khartoum and Darfur, will further complicate the security situation and deepen the humanitarian tragedy. Political and civil forces have emerged seeking to establish governments or local authorities in the areas they control. Among these forces is the "Civil Democratic Forces Coordination," known as "Taqaddum," which has announced the establishment of a government in its areas of influence in coordination with the Rapid Support Forces. This lack of national consensus exacerbates the Sudanese crisis and complicates efforts to achieve peace and stability in the country.
The Regional Network for Reconciliation and Forgiveness commends the efforts of the UN and the international community to put an end to the suffering of Sudanese people and to establish peace in Sudan. At the same time, it expresses its concern over the continued conflict and its impact on civilians. The network emphasizes the necessity of an immediate ceasefire by all parties and urges a return to peaceful solutions that respect human rights. The Regional Network for Reconciliation and Forgiveness in the Arab region offers its expertise to support the peace process in Sudan, aiming to end the war and build a future worthy of Sudan and its people.
