Success Story: Gaza Youth Choose Dialogue Despite Difficult Circumstances

Amid the severe humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, young participants continued their involvement in the Peer Mediation Training Program, implemented by ACT for Conflict Resolution in partnership with the Culture and Free Thought Association and the Aisha Association for Woman and Child Protection.

During one of the training sessions, nearby bombardment forced the facilitator to temporarily pause the session and move participants to a safe location. Once everyone's safety was secured, the participants surprised the team by asking to resume the training.

One participant said:

"If we stop learning because of what is happening around us, we will never learn how to build peace."

Another participant added:

"I now know that I can help my friends resolve their problems through dialogue instead of fighting."

The impact of the training was not limited to acquiring new skills in mediation, communication, and peaceful conflict resolution; it was also reflected in their ability to manage disputes in their daily lives.

This experience exemplifies how youth can play an active role in spreading a culture of dialogue and peace within their communities, even under the most challenging conditions—and how knowledge and skills can provide them with practical tools to choose dialogue over conflict.
