As Part of Community Initiatives in the Gaza Strip: Launch of the 'Tawafuq' Program for Resolving Professional and Technical Disputes
With support from ACT for Conflict Resolution, the community initiative "Tawafuq – Toward Consensus-Based Solutions for Professional and Technical Disputes" was launched in the Gaza Strip. Implemented by Amjad Mzeid, the initiative aims to enhance the capacities of male and female engineers to constructively address disputes and disagreements that may arise within engineering work environments and professional projects.
This initiative is part of a series of community programs supported by ACT in the Gaza Strip. It seeks to apply conflict management and mediation concepts and practices to address societal and professional challenges, while fostering a culture of dialogue, understanding, and consensus-building.
The initiative kicked off with an introductory program on managing professional and technical disputes, featuring a diverse group of engineers across various specialties and backgrounds, as part of a 12-hour training course.
The program covers several key topics, including understanding the nature and root causes of professional and technical disputes, enhancing communication and dialogue skills, practicing interest-based negotiation, and exploring the core principles of mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
Utilizing an interactive methodology, the program combines discussions, experience-sharing, case studies, and practical applications drawn directly from engineering and project environments. This enables participants to develop practical tools for early dispute resolution, de-escalation, and reaching solutions that protect the interests of all parties while maintaining professional relationships.
Through the "Tawafuq" initiative, Amjad Mzeid seeks to raise awareness about the importance of managing professional and technical disputes through consensus-based approaches. The initiative encourages engineers to adopt dialogue, negotiation, and mediation as practical tools for resolving conflicts, thereby contributing to a more collaborative professional environment capable of managing disputes constructively.
ACT for Conflict Resolution continues to support community initiatives across the Gaza Strip as part of its ongoing efforts to promote a culture of dialogue, mediation, and peaceful, consensus-driven dispute resolution across various fields.
