Launch of the first training workshops for the project 'Community Initiatives Based on Mediation Approach to Promote Dialogue and Social Cohesion in Palestinian Society
ACT Conflict Resolution Organization launched the first training workshop under the project "Mediation-Inspired Community Initiatives for Dialogue and Social Cohesion in Palestinian Communities," funded by the European Union, with the participation of 15 young men and women representing the various areas targeted by the project.
The workshop, which constitutes the first phase of the training program, aims to empower participants to design community initiatives inspired by mediation approaches. These initiatives contribute to strengthening dialogue, fostering social cohesion, and responding to community needs through locally driven solutions.
On the first day, participants explored key concepts related to volunteering, teamwork, mutual assistance, and the importance of promoting civil peace. Discussions also addressed the role of communities in protecting themselves by reinforcing a system of shared values, distinguishing between absolute and non-absolute values, thereby deepening understanding of social relations and mechanisms for addressing diverse challenges.
The session further focused on analyzing the community context as a fundamental step in designing initiatives. Participants worked on identifying local challenges and needs, setting priorities that could be addressed through dialogue- and mediation-based initiatives.
The program includes three intensive in-person workshops spanning three days, during which initiative ideas are collaboratively developed to reach approximately 90% readiness before moving into field implementation. This stage is followed by ten coaching and mentoring sessions to support participating teams in executing their initiatives and enhancing their impact and sustainability.
During the training days, participants will develop six community initiatives by working in groups, thereby strengthening planning and collaborative skills and transforming ideas into practical interventions that promote a culture of dialogue, mediation, and social cohesion within Palestinian communities.
This activity is part of the project "Mediation-Inspired Community Initiatives for Dialogue and Social Cohesion in Palestinian Communities," funded by the European Union and implemented by ACT Conflict Resolution Organization. The project seeks to enhance community participation and empower youth to lead initiatives based on dialogue and mediation as tools for addressing societal challenges and building more cohesive communities.
