ACT for Conflict Resolution Launches Training to Establish Mediation Club at Al Ummah Secondary School in Jerusalem
25 May 2025

ACT for Conflict Resolution has launched its first training session for the School Mediation Programme at Al Ummah Secondary School in Jerusalem. This programme is a collaboration with the Jerusalem Directorate of Education. It falls under the "Enhancing Jerusalemites' Access to Informal Justice" project, implemented by the Joint Sawasya 3 Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and with the support of the Programme, and within the "Merciful Among Themselves" campaign led by the Jerusalem Governorate.

The session included the participation of twenty-five male and female students from the eighth to the eleventh grades. They were allowed to discuss the nature, types, and severity of school conflicts. They also presented their perspectives on effective mechanisms for dealing with them and explored the social, religious, ethical, and value-based dimensions that influence the relationships between students within the educational environment.

The initial training session was supervised by Mr. Mohammed Hadieh, who focused his presentation on the fundamental skills and mechanisms for conflict resolution. The students will undergo in-depth training on these skills during the subsequent series of meetings, paving the way for the official establishment of the School Mediation Club within the school.

It is worth mentioning that the Jerusalem Directorate of Education and the school administration have demonstrated strong and effective support for this qualitative project and have expressed their full commitment to the success of establishing the Mediation Club within the school premises.
