ACT for Conflict Resolution highlights the topic of arbitration in sports doping abuse.

ACT, based in Jerusalem held the sixteenth dialogue session of the Arbitration Forum under the title “Arbitration in Sports Doping Abuse” on Wednesday, 06/26/2024 via Zoom, based on its belief in the importance of this topic and spreading the culture of resorting to arbitration in many fields.

In a two- hour long dialogue session, ACT hosted Judge Shaaban Ghaleb, Vice President of the Court of Appeal in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Dr. Tariq Diab, the accredited arbitrator for the National Authority for Sports Arbitration in Kuwait, in a dialogue session prepared by Ms. Heba Thouqan, a lawyer and arbitrator in civil and commercial contract disputes from Palestine. In the presence of more than 80 participants from various Arab countries.

Many topics were discussed in this session, including explaining the concept of doping and methods of sports doping, learning about the nature of the International Sports Anti-Doping Agency and the national agencies for combating sports doping. The role of arbitration in settling disputes related to the use of sports doping and the most important arbitration institutions specialized in settling matters were discussed. These disputes included presenting many practical applications about arbitration in sports doping disputes.

Many of the participants attending this symposium interacted, raising many important topics and questions about several technical and legal points, through which opinions and knowledge were exchanged, which enriched this dialogue session.

Through this symposium, ACT announced the allocation of a training course in the field of arbitration in sports disputes, which will be announced soon.

We note that ACT works to organize periodic dialogue sessions on arbitration topics through the Arbitration Forum, out of its belief in the importance of developing and strengthening the culture of resorting to arbitration among members of Palestinian and Arab society.
