ACT for Conflict Resolution holds a dialogue session on the topic of arbitration in sports disputes
ACT for Conflict Resolution in Jerusalem held the fourteenth dialogue session of the Arbitration Forum under the title “Arbitration in Sports Disputes” on Sunday February 18th 2024, via the Zoom application. Based on its belief in the importance of enhancing the role of alternative means in resolving disputes and spreading the culture of resorting to Arbitration.
For two hours, ACT hosted Judge Shaaban Ghaleb, Vice President of the Court of Appeal in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Dr. Tariq Diab, the accredited arbitrator of the National Authority for Sports Arbitration in Kuwait, in a dialogue session prepared by the lawyer Heba Thouqan, an arbitrator in civil and commercial contract disputes from Palestine, in the presence of more than 112 participants from various Arab countries.
Many topics were discussed in this session, including explaining what sports disputes are, the concept of sports arbitration, knowing the extent of the necessity of resorting to arbitration to settle sports disputes, addressing the legal organization of sports arbitration in some Arab legislation, learning what the International Court of Sports Arbitration is, and the sports arbitration procedures in The Kuwaiti Sports Arbitration Authority has presented many practical and judicial applications on the subject.
A large number of participants attending this session interacted, raising many important topics and questions about several legal points through which opinions were exchanged, which enriched this dialogue session with legal knowledge.
We note that ACT works to organize periodic dialogue sessions on arbitration topics through the Arbitration Forum, out of its belief in the importance of developing and strengthening the culture of resorting to arbitration among members of the entire Palestinian and Arab community.
