The Sixteenth Mediation Forum Titled: “International Mediation Efforts in The Context of Arab Conflicts.”
ACT Conflict Resolution held an interactive session on the topic of: “International Mediation Efforts in The Context of Arab Conflicts.” This session comes as a part of the project to strengthen the role of alternative means of conflict resolution in Jerusalem in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and with the support of Swasiyah Programme Palestine. The session was held on Friday the 22nd of December 2023.
Dr. Diana Faour, a lawyer, university lecturer and intellectual property rights expert, as well as Professor Bairam Ghazal, a lawyer and human rights activist, and a researcher in the doctoral-private law corps, hosted an interactive session under the direction of Professor Mohammed Attiya and attended by 100 participants from various Arab countries through the Zoom application.
This session dealt with two themes, the first: international mediation efforts in resolving the Arab conflict. In recent years, Dr. Diana Faour addressed the concept and legal basis of international mediation and its importance in the settlement of conflicts. She also spoke on the basis and principles of the mediation process. She highlighted realistic examples of multiple international mediation efforts that have intervened in recent years in an attempt to settle the Arab (Palestinian-Israeli) conflict and discussed the success of these efforts.
The second was entitled "Assessment of the compatibility of efforts in Palestinian reconciliation within the framework of the concept of international mediation". "Where Dr. Bairam Ghazal addressed the mechanism for assessing the compatibility of international efforts and attempts in Palestinian reconciliation with the concept of international mediation through a careful analysis based on the multidimensional historical, cultural and political context, as well as the extent to which mediators adhere to international mediation principles, standards and ethical mediation elements to analyze and evaluate efforts within the concept of international mediation.
The interventions of the participants present were important in promoting the debate and enriching this session on the subject of the foundations and principles of mediation and in opening up many important prospects for the search for the topic of international mediation.
We note that ACT Conflict Resolution in Jerusalem regularly organizes seminars on mediation topics through the Mediation Forum in the belief that it is important to highlight the role of alternative means in conflict resolution.
