"Strengthening the Role of Arbitration in Jerusalem" Conference concludes its activities in Ramallah
The final statement of the conference that was held in Ramallah on 18 February 2017, concluded with a number of recommendations; mainly extending the mandate of the Palestinian judiciary to include the entire occupied Palestinian territories including Jerusalem, producing official guidelines and regulations that ensure the implementation of provisions issued by arbitration bodies and enhancing the initiatives that expand the national partnership circle among stakeholders; all within the arbitration and rule of law framework. As regards the direct foreign investment laws and policies, the conference concluded with recommendations to enhance investment opportunities in the city of Jerusalem to support the resilience of its citizens, create a coherent legal environment based on arbitration to resolve disputes in the city, incorporate arbitration terms in investment contracts, create a national legal environment for investors and developers to provide for a convenient investment climate. The conference also highlighted the propagation and dissemination of the culture of resorting to dispute resolution alternative means as opposed to resorting to the occupation courts, especially in real estate disputes. The conference was organized by the Palestinian Bar Association and ACT in an attempt to confront the vicious attack on the occupied city of Jerusalem by the occupation government who constantly works to displace the Palestinian citizens of their city and to impede the economic life in the city.
