28 February 2021

ACT for Conflict Resolution Institution held the final ceremony for “Modernizing arbitration services in relation to family disputes in Sharia' courts in Jerusalem” Project virtually via Zoom due to the general health conditions and restrictions. The project’s activities and productions were showcased including, the results and recommendations of the research study on “Arbitration Procedures in cases of conflict and dispute before the Sharia courts in Jerusalem”, the “Arbitration procedures” guide and a booklet that includes questions and answers for the public about these procedures, the code of conduct and ethics for arbitrators and the MED-ARB model (a process combining mediation and arbitration developed by ACT as a practical methodology for arbitration procedures in family dispute cases). Some participants in the project’s training also had the chance to share their experience and the trainings impact on their lives. At the end of the ceremony, the floor was open for discussion. The attendees enriched the discussion by bringing examples of arbitration cases highlighting the arbitrator’s poor performances and how that affects the outcome, they also noted the importance of the publications produced by this project.

This project is funded by the Government of Canada, during which 16 participants received training on the MED-ARB model.
