ACT for Conflict Resolution launches the Community Mediation Handbook

ACT for Conflict Resolution launches the Community Mediation Handbook
20 January 2021

ACT for Conflict Resolution launched its first handbook on community mediation which aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge for trainees, along with specific procedures for the mediation process. Through this handbook, ACT seeks to examine various practical models of mediation, in order to reach the best model that can be adopted locally in line with individualistic social and cultural values and Palestinian community context at large. In addition, ACT aims to prepare a new generation of community mediators, professionals, and specialists with the ability to understand the conflict in the Palestinian social and legal context, and skills to deal with disputes while taking into consideration the needs and interests of the disputing parties.

The handbook was prepared by the mediation expert, Mr. Hani Smirat, and supervised by the mediation team at ACT that comprised from Attorney Mohamad Hadiyeh, Lawyer Rania Ghosheh and Lawyer Nabil Izhiman. The handbook consists of three sections: the theoretical framework of conflict and mediation, definition, concept and skills; practical application of mediation in all its stages; and forms used in the mediation process.

The handbook was developed as part of ACT project to strengthen the capabilities of the Faisal Center for Mediation and Arbitration funded by the Arab Monetary Fund, managed by the Islamic Development Bank, and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
