Meeting conducted to discuss a fact sheet on “Family Protection from Violence” Act
Today, ACT for Conflict Resolution discussed the first draft of a soon-to-be-issued fact sheet on the Law on the Protection of Family from Violence. This paper came as an additional step after a series of dialogues on the text of the law.
The Institution held two roundtable discussions on the text of the law, attended by representatives from different institutions some opposing and some supporting the text of the law. The two sessions included a serious and intense discussion about the text of the law.
After conducting numerous meetings about the text of the law, ACT Institution decided to issue a fact sheet. This fact sheet is to be prepared by representatives from all spectrums of civil society opposing and supporting the law, by reducing the gap between supporters and opponents of the law and amending it in a way that suits all segments of society, then submitting it to the Official authorities responsible for drafting the law.
The meeting attendees were representatives from women’s institutions, government and religious bodies. Each party expressed their opinion on the text of the law and the fact sheet, provided that this is the first session for the amendment.
ACT believes that having national community dialogue is the best solution to reduce the gap between the government and society. Dialogue also promotes an ideal state where the government bases its decisions on community involvement without discrimination or injustice.
