Ahl youth group organizes accountability sessions for municipalities in the suburbs of Jerusalem.
"Ahl" group for promoting civil peace in the suburbs of Jerusalem held three accountability sessions in south, north east, and northwest Jerusalem this august in the aim of reducing the gap between officials and citizens and promoting transparency.
Southeast Jerusalem group organized an accountability session with the president of Bethany's municipality Essam Faron. The session touched upon several issues that the area suffers from, most notably, traffic, shops licenses, and high collection fees.
On the other hand, northwest Jerusalem group held an accountability session with the president of Al-Jeep municipality Ghassan Allan, and it included questions on land settlement, water crisis, and holding weddings in light of the corona pandemic.
From its side, Ahl youth group in northeast Jerusalem held an accountability session with the president of Al-Ram municipality Raqi Ghazawneh which touched upon several issues in the region, most importantly, water distribution, waste and road paving problems.
The questions of the participants came along with the needs of the citizens in the suburbs of Jerusalem in the aim of clarifying several sides of their daily lives. The presidents of municipalities answered the questions precisely and transparently. Obstacles and crisis faced by municipalities and the area were also clarified.
The presidents of the three municipalities indicated the necessity of concerted efforts by all parties in order to solve the existing problems and improve municipal services through citizen duties towards the municipality and vice versa to enhance the public interest. They also pledged to continue serving the citizen and seeking to solve the problems facing the areas in the suburbs of Jerusalem.
The session included a rich discussion about the problems that citizens in the suburbs of Jerusalem suffer from, and the possibility of solving it by proposing and discussing all the ideas proposed for solving with the help of all groups of society.
It is worth noting that Ahl project for promoting civil peace in the suburbs of Jerusalem which is implemented by Act conflict resolution in partnership with the Palestinian police and sponsored by GIZ.
